Punta della Suina, voted Italy’s top gay/LGBTQ+ friendly beach by Italy’s LGBTQ+ community in 2021, has been named as one of “40 of the best beaches in Europe” by the UK’s The Guardian Newspaper.
The Gallipoli beach was one of only five Italian beaches to be included in the list (the others were Le Marche’s San Michele, Sirolo, Sa Colonia in Sardinia, Calamosche, Sicily and Sperlonga, Lazio).
Described by the Guardian as “wild” and “idyllic”, the article praised Puglia’s Ionian coast.
“Beaches on Puglia’s Ionian coast have more than a hint of the Seychelles, with multihued water and soft white sand.”
Punta della Suina was also voted our readers’ favorite beach in our 2020 Best of Puglia poll, though our own personal favorite gay beach is Campomarino’s D’Ayala beach.
Other countries whose beaches were listed in The Guardian’s Europe’s 40 Best included Greece, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Montenegro, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, Turkey, Croatia and Albania.
