Eat Puglia | QuantoBasta Pizza & Dessert, Alberobello

Pizza from Puglia | photo the Puglia Guys for the Big Gay Podcast from Puglia travel guides to Italy’s top gay summer destination for LGBTQ travel.

Awesome pizza (and Pugliese pucce)

We visit Alberobello between 9 - 12 times over the summer months. One of the challenges is escaping the crowds in the UNESCO trulli zone meandering up the Monti and Aia Piccola districts.

Restaurants are packed, and often cater to international tastes with hot dog and hamburger on the menu.

Stray into the wrong restaurant and you might find yourself in a canteen catering to upwards of 300+ cruise line passengers on their bus tour to Alberobello...

QuantoBasta is centrally located only minutes from the trulli zone. Yet it is a calm oasis with exquisite and reasonably priced pizza.

The margherita €5 was stunning. Their very original asiatica €8 with gorgonzola, honey, pear and walnut a tour de force.

We also had a puccia - a round type of panini common in the south, sliced down the middle and stuffed full of flavour packed fillings. We had the piccantissima, a tasty treat with spicy nduja (soft and spicy) salami, gorgonzola, tomato salsa and fior di late ( a mozzarella type cheese made locally).

The pucce (one puccia, two pucce) menu replicates the pizza menu. If you see a pizza you want but fancy it puccia style, just ask.

They make their own bread which added to the deliciousness.

QuantoBasta have a restaurant in Locorotondo as well, but currently they only serve pizza and not their pucce.

Lunch for 4 (3 pizza 1 puccia and 2 sides) with soft drinks, 4 large bottles of water and coffee, including the usual cover €54.
