Wine tourism in Puglia

Wine tourism in Puglia

In 1998 five local wine producers came together to form the Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia (“MTV” the Puglia Wine Tourism Movement) with the purpose of promoting our region’s wine culture by opening the vineyards and wineries to visitors.

They and their members offer wine-themed tourist itineraries including (of course) tastings.

A selection of tours is available from MTV themselves covering all of our region from Daunia to Salento. Find them here.

Then there is the Consorzio di Tutela del Primitivo di Manduria Doc (the Consortium for the Protection of Primitivo di Manduria Doc).

The Primitivo di Manduria Protection Consortium was born in 1998. Their members produce across approximately 3,140 hectares of vineyards that make up the denomination of Primitivo di Manduria covering 18 municipalities between Taranto and Brindisi.

Production is divided into Primitivo di Manduria Dop, Primitivo di Manduria Dolce Naturale Docg and Primitivo di Manduria Dop Riserva.

They offer events from July to September, focussed on the cultural and archaeological characteristics of their territorio Manduria.

Terra che Vive though not linked to a wine producer specialise in authentic food and wine experiences in Puglia with local experts. They have their own wine tasting tours.

Puglia Region’s tourist board Viaggiare in Puglia usually have some useful food and wine suggestions.

Drink | Daunia and #Gargano have a few great whites from local grape varieties: Bombino bianco, Malvasia bianca, Trebbiano. For something sparkling try some D’Araprì spumante.
